NookMarker link reader
Last updated: 23 October 2026
If you run a website and see NookMarkerLinkReader/1.0 in your logs, this page is for you.
What it is
NookMarker is a bookmark manager with an assistant, Nookly. When a NookMarker user asks Nookly what a link is, or asks it to sort their saved bookmarks into folders, our server opens those pages for them. It is not a crawler: it never follows links on its own, and it opens a page only because a user asked about that page or saved it.
What it reads
- Usually only the beginning of the page (an HTTP range request), where its title and description are.
- Sometimes the page's text, to say what the page is about — up to 1 MB, once.
- No scripts are run, no images are loaded, and no cookies are sent or kept.
- It never opens a link that does something when opened (for example unsubscribe, confirm or sign out), never follows more than three redirects, and gives up after eight seconds.
- Nothing of the page is stored on our side.
How to block it
The reader names itself in its User-Agent:
NookMarkerLinkReader/1.0 (+https://nookmarker.com/link-reader). Answer that user agent
with 403 Forbidden (in your server, firewall or CDN rules) and it will not read your
pages — it never tries to look like a browser to get around a block. Because a person asked
for each page, as with other user-triggered fetchers, it does not read robots.txt.
